The Agri-Food Immigration Program of Canada

Are you familiar with farming and ranching? How about simple labor? If yes, you can immigrate to Canada. With Canada’s agri-food immigration program, you don’t need to have a fancy education or extensive knowledge of English or French! Of course, having a job offer from a Canadian employer is also necessary for those who live outside of Canada.

The aim of the agri-food immigration program is to address the labor shortage in Canada’s mushroom production, agriculture, and meat sectors. Farming, ranching, and food exports make up a significant part of Canada’s economy. The goal of this immigration program is to attract full-time, non-seasonal foreign workers to fill labor shortages in these sectors.

If you immigrate through this program, after working in Canada for two years, you can obtain permanent residency in Canada.

Every year, a maximum of 2,750 people can enter Canada through this program along with their families.

Steps to Take for the Canadian Agriculture and Food Industry Immigration Program

If you meet all the conditions mentioned above, you can apply directly to the Canada Immigration Office for permanent residency in Canada.

For this application, you need to complete the necessary forms and documents according to the instructions on the official page of the agri-food immigration program in Canada. Make sure to provide official and valid documents showing that you meet all the required conditions for this immigration program.

Then, you should submit your application through the online portal of the immigration office.

Tips for Employers

Food industry employers who intend to hire foreign workers through this immigration program will be approved for two years by LMIA. Employers wishing to use this program must specify what support they will provide to their foreign workers so they can obtain permanent residency in Canada.

Meat producers who are union members must provide a letter of support from their union, and those who are not union members must provide other documents to prove that there won’t be any issues for the migrant workforce and the job market.

Employers who have recently hired under this program and whose workers have been able to obtain permanent residency in Canada can now hire even more new foreign workers than the maximum number set.
